My Ph.D. background is in novel transformations in organometallic homogeneous/heterogeneous catalysis. My current work focuses on understanding how to design chemicals so that they have minimal toxicological and environmental hazards. We do this through computationally predicting physiochemical properties and comparing chemicals that are relatively safe to those that are highly toxic. Ultimately we aim to inform chemists with a set of design rules they can follow to avoid synthesizing highly dangerous chemicals and avoid/minimize in-vivo toxicity testing.
