Laura Vandenberg

I am currently conducting bench research that investigates how alterations in early development affect patterning of Xenopus embryos. Specifically, I am examining how exposure to chemicals that alter pH, membrane voltage and other aspects of ion flux affect the development of the left-right axis and craniofacial morphogenesis. In the long term, we expect that the information we generate can be used to treat and/or prevent birth defects.

My other major research focus is on understanding human exposure to the endocrine disruptor bisphenol A. I have recently completed a meta-analysis of biomonitoring studies which clearly indicate that humans are internally exposed to unconjugated BPA. This information will be useful for regulatory agencies and scientists alike.
