Martha Susiarjo, Ph.D., postdoctoral fellow, University of Pennsylvania, is interested in epigenetics and reproductive toxicology. She studies the effects of environmental factors on mouse fetal development, focusing on a specific set of genes called 'imprinted genes'. These genes are expressed only from one parental origin - either paternal or maternal, and when improperly expressed, they are linked to several human diseases and disorders. Her research focuses on impacts of exposure to environmental estrogens on imprinted gene regulation.
