As the science writer at Environmental Health Sciences, Wendy Hessler manages the Science Communication Fellows program. The scientists participating in the year-long Fellowship learn key skills in writing for news media and gain the confidence they need to translate and explain complicated science findings – and their context – to the public and the media. Wendy works closely with the Fellows through the year, guiding them as they write and publish monthly research summaries on the Environmental Health News web site.

Wendy has more than 15 years of professional experience writing about science and the environment for general and specialized audiences. For 10 years she maintained the e.hormone web site, managing content and writing about endocrine disruption policy and research. Prior to that, her freelancing, consulting and  job positions were focused on writing, editing, conference organizing, teaching and laboratory research.

She holds a MA in journalism from the University of Colorado, Boulder and a BS degree in biology from Oregon State University. She is a member of the National Association of Science Writers and the Society of Environmental Journalists.
